Mugler Cologne: No Traces Of Gourmand Here

If you think that all Thierry Mugler’s fragrances are composed of good-enough-to-eat notes then you haven’t discovered Mugler Cologne yet. Call it the antithesis of Angel. Mugler Cologne is not in any way gourmand; rather it’s green, clean and soapy just like the comely aroma of the Moroccan soap that Thierry Mugler bought years ago. Perfumer Alberto Morillas designed this cologne and the notes are neroli, bergamot, petit grain, African orange, white musk and a mysterious “S” note. This cologne is unlike Angel. There’s none of the food-y accords that beset Angel and its flankers.

This cologne is a modern take of the 80s cologne when soapy accords were the main composition in men’s fragrances. The green accords is like fresh cut grass. The light and easygoing feeling it brings out is comforting, more like cozy and laid-back in the long run. There’s also some zesty-herbal aroma that adds to the masculinity factor although some women do fancy wearing this cologne as well. The mysterious “S” accord is probably sage – the aromatic herb that permeates a distinct minty fresh flavor that makes your dinner flavorful. As for the base, the white musk provides a nice background to the entire composition.

The problem with this fragrance is longevity. Cologne, per se, is a diluted version of the more potent parfum, eau de toilette and eau de parfum and that could be the reason for its short-lived sillage. This is a personal fragrance because you need to be close to appreciate it and also, spraying more often will help hold the scent longer.

Mugler Cologne on the overall is a well-blended fragrance especially if you don’t feel like wearing something groundbreaking. It’s also a nice summer scent when the air is hot and dry. Or on days when you feel like taking it easy, dress down and not be the center of everybody else’s olfactory radar.
